5/29/26 - 4:46 - 56 degrees. As I sit on my old rocker on my small redwood porch, I take note of the uncanny stillness.
I say my prayers and talk with God, thanking him for the life he has given me and praying for those I know are in need. As I do this, the tall cedar fir, with its limbs draped in emerald tinsel, whispers quietly in the early morning breeze, giving God a voice.
The American Robin is one of the first to sound off on this very still morning, along with the gray Catbird, and followed by a multitude of songs by the tiny house sparrow. I feed them with piles of seed and nuts in the driveway and a sprinkling of nuts on my porch. In no time, I count ten squirrels and an occasional Bluejay swooping down for a peanut. The tiny chipmunk runs across my feet, uncaring if they belong to me or not. One squirrel in particular, I call him Mr. Gray Squirrel, he comes and sits in front of me on his hind legs with his little front paws bent in front of his chest. He stares at me with his little gray head moving back and forth as if to say, where are the peanuts? He now eats out of my hand. And then there is Mr. short tail, who is a chipmunk that must have lost half his tail to a hungry varmint. I am so thankful for all the little friends God sends me.
6:18 train sounds its whistle in the distance. The forest is lush, green, and still. Food for my soul.
Until next time with Breakfast with God.
