5:30 - 9/13/26 - 67 degrees. In the darkness of early morning, I sit in my old rocker on my small redwood porch once again. The 5:31 train roars through the forest. Steel meets iron in a clanky noise, yet familiar and comforting. There is a silence in the forest this morning except for the ever-present crickets.

The crab apple tree, just to my right, has begun to dropping her fruit to the ground. A telltale sign of the coming autumn. Soon I will collect them and make crab apple jelly. Yes, fall is around the corner, and as we close the door on summer, we open it to brand new scents and colors.

6:05 The darkness is lifting as the sun prepares to make an appearance. I say my prayers and talk with God. This is the time I set aside, whether my day is good or bad, to be with my maker.

The Tufted Titmouse is the first to awaken this morning, followed by the Northern Cardinal and Carolina Wren, the usual suspects, although this morning they are joined by the Common Starling.

I begin to think about one of my clients who has begun to read the Bible in a year, as I did. It is interesting and exciting to watch the changes in her as she questions what she is reading, for the Bible is no easy read. I don't think it was meant to be. It is in the questioning that leads you closer to God on your own special journey. You knock on the door, and God opens it. Maybe not all the way at first, for there is much to be learned. It is this process that leads you closer and closer to God without you even realizing what is happening. It is in this process that God speaks to you in his small, quiet voice. No, it is not audible. It is within and in all elements of nature.

Until next time with Breakfast with God.
